I love books and will be posting reviews and comments about what I learned and how I felt about some of the books in my life. I am usually reading several books at a time, plus listening to one or more. I am always on the lookout for books to read; my family tries to steer me away from bookstores when we are out and about. I love bookstores and libraries and I love seeing the books in other people’s homes, sneaking a peek into what interests them. Sadly, many people in my life do not seem to read many books, which I cannot fathom. Of course, it comes in stages. Moms with young children, for example, have little time for such things. Although my niece, who has young children, including an infant, manages to squeeze some in by listening to books.
I highly recommend audible.com for audio books. Click here for a free trial– your first book is free! Since I listen to A LOT of books, I have an annual account, which comes out to less than $10 per book, plus I sometimes buy additional titles when Audible has special sales. I also recommend project gutenberg and Librivox for free access to classics and lots of other books whose copyright has expired.
Where do I get my hard copies of books? I enjoy supporting authors by purchasing their books, especially if I am almost certain it will help me. This happens, for example, when I have read a blog for awhile, like when the book Atomic Habits came out. I had been reading the blog www.jamesclear.com for some time, so when I could pre-order the book, I did.
I also find books at used bookstores, thrift stores, garage sales, Little Free Libraries, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, independent books stores (hard to find but I like to support them). I was feeling a bit guilty about getting used books, but then I read an article that said not to, that me getting a used book at least means someone actually bought it the first time. And it is a taste of that author’s style and subject matter, which may lead me to learn more about the author and even read more of their books. And also that authors love that their books are still out there being read.
